This Study Question is a follow-up of Epic Star Wars, Episode VII: Return of the Savior.
Comebacks can be momentous, for the person making one and for the people who see them. Thus far, the greatest comeback to date is the resurrection of Jesus Christ. His doing this brought hope to untold millions (if not, billions) of people and preserved their lives. Christian ministries have successfully ministered to the needs of many people solely because of this one historical comeback.
But soon, there will be a greater comeback than this. Jesus is about to come back from heaven.
Q: Name several reasons why the Second Coming of Jesus Christ is the ultimate comeback.
1. Because the entire world will see it, not just a few people.
“And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.” (Matt. 24:30, italics supplied)
Every last person on Earth will see Jesus come back from heaven with His angels. Contrary to popular belief, this will not be a secret comeback.
2. Because those faithful followers of God who died will be a part of it.
“For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.” (1 Thess. 4:15-17.)
Texts such as these and Rom. 8:38, 39 will come to life for the faithful on this day. In fact, it will come to life for every faithful follower of God that ever lived. Whether they be Jew, or Gentile, rich or poor, small or great, they will finally reap the reward for their faithfulness to God.
3. Because almost all the prophecies of the Bible will be fulfilled at this point.
At this point in human history, there will be only a few prophecies left to be fulfilled. Everything Jesus went through, every lesson He taught, every miracle He performed, and every Scripture that testifies of Him will come to this one moment.
4. Because God’s people will finally be delivered from sin.
On this day in history, there will be no more struggle with sin (secretly or openly). There will be no more funerals, dangerous neighborhoods, wars, stressful work, or drama. When Jesus returns, we will be free from sin forever.
There are many more answers to this question, but the point is the same. Jesus’ return is the ultimate comeback and we must get ready for it. What will you do when the greatest comeback of all time happens? What will you be? Ready or not ready?
“And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.”(Matt. 24:30)
“Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.” (Rev. 1:7)
